A Public Potluck is not Allowed Under the Oregon Food Sanitation Rules

A public potluck (any large community event that is widely advertised for the general public to bring dishes prepared at home) is not allowed under the Oregon Food Sanitation Rules (OAR 333-150, 3-201.11). This applies to public events, not private functions (office potlucks, weddings, church groups, etc.). This rule is in place to help prevent foodborne illness. Call our office at 503-842-3909 with any questions about a food event being considered private or public (perhaps requiring a temporary restaurant permit.)
